Nebraska School Nurses Association

Details about Project ECHO--First session on October 23rd!!

Posted over 4 years ago by Megan Lytle MBA, MSN, RN

Good afternoon, School Nurses! I hope the school year is off to a good start.

Children’s is excited to provide a school nurse focused Project ECHO series starting October 23rd. I am guessing many if not most of you have not heard of Project ECHO, and let me tell you, this is a great opportunity for school nurses to learn and get ten free CNEs. This is an online learning opportunity via Zoom to learn about the latest information and evidence-based practices to improve student health outcomes. These sessions will be on Wednesdays from 3:00-4:00 PM (CST). The time was chosen based on survey results I received at the June state school nurse conference. I recognize this time does not work for everyone, but we went with the majority and hope many of you can attend. There will be a recorded option for those who cannot attend live. You can attend one session or all ten  – whatever fits your schedule and interest.

Each session will be a one hour live event (1 CNE per session), and the first half of each session will be recorded so those who cannot attend live can still obtain 0.5 CNE for that 30 minute didactic portion. The second half of each session will include a de-identified case presentation in which participants can ask questions and engage in conversation. It will be a great way to gain valuable resources and ideas on managing chronic diseases and other medical issues.

Where you can help  --  We need case studies! If you are comfortable with presenting a de-identified case during the live ECHO session, we would love your participation but please know it is not mandatory. We simply need your experiences and interactions with students, families and providers. The cases can be situations you do not know how to resolve, where difficulties exist, where you do not have the resources you need, or the student and/or family is not engaged or compliant.  The experts on the call will be able to interact with the audience and provide feedback and guidance.

The registration link below has a button to submit a case study which you can do for one or more of the weekly topics. Right now, I am looking for case studies for the following sessions:

Wed, November 6 – Concussion Screening & Management in Schools

Wed, November 20 – A School Health Approach to Asthma & Food Allergies

Wed, December 4 – Part 1: School Health Screenings – Immunization Update & Vision Collaborative Highlights

If you would like to discuss a student who may be a good case study, I am happy to talk to you via email or phone – whichever you prefer.

Please pass this email on to others on your team or at other schools as I want this opportunity to get out to as many Nebraska school nurses as possible.
