Respiratory virus transmission is increasing in Nebraska, including RSV, SARS-CoV-2, influenza, parainfluenza viruses, and adenovirus. (Source: DHHS Health Alert 11.4.22)

Good ventilation can reduce the number of virus particles in the air and reduce the likelihood of spreading disease. (Source: CDC Ventilation in Schools and Childcare Programs)

Schools can order HEPA air purifier machines for classrooms, your health office, and more for FREE!

From the U.S. Dept of Education: Consider using portable air cleaners that use filtration technology, such as high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters. A July 2021 CDC report shows that HEPA filters can reduce exposure to the virus that causes COVID-19, particularly in combination with universal and correct mask wearing. Select air cleaners of appropriate capacity for the space in which they will operate. Portable air cleaners can go in any room of a school building to serve as an additional safety and mitigation layer, including in areas where airflow may be limited, and/or in areas where sick individuals may be present such as a nurse’s office or sick/isolation room.

Talk to your schools, and take advantage of the opportunity to get free ventilation supplies, such as portable HEPA filter machines, for your school.

By reducing the spread of viruses, these tools can hopefully make your work a little easier and protect your health as well. Check out the CDC Interactive School Ventilation Tool to see how effective these can be.
