Leadership Rooted in Place: Rural School Nursing Across America

In rural communities across the country, school nurses carry entire ecosystems. Distance is not abstract - it shapes access, response, and prevention. This session reframes the school nurse as a Chief Wellness Officer grounded in community trust and place-based leadership. We will examine advocacy as a strategy for protecting student care and sustaining prevention, and address firearm injury through the realities of rural suicide risk and safe storage education. This conversation centers what rural nurses already understand: leadership here looks different - and it is essential.
